Winter Clothing Drive 2022

With temperatures below zero already here, it's only going to get colder as winter comes. There are many people who are homeless and in need of winter clothes to survive the cold Manitoban winters. According to Almanac.com, this year's winter will be colder than previous years, with the coldest periods starting mid-November and going till late February.

In May 24 of 2022, End homelessness Winnipeg surveyed 1256 people experiencing homelessness.
Of those surveyed:
- 60% were from the foster care system.
- 68% identify as indigenous.
- 18 was the most common age people became homeless.

As part of the community, it is important that we try to help as many people stay warm during these tough times. We must all do our part and help in any which way we can. We are collaborating with Mainstreet Project for a Winter Clothes Drive! All of the clothes collected during the drive will be given to MSP!

The clothing drive will begin on November 20,2022 and will go on until December 20, 2022.
There will be three drop off locations:
1. Sikh Society of Manitoba, 2. Maples Community Center and 3. Sikh South center.

We will also be doing community pick ups on every Sunday and Wednesday during the duration of the drive. To coordinate a pickup please send us a message or call: 204-899-0088.

Most needed items include: winter jackets, blankets, mittens/gloves and socks.

Community Cleanup

The litter index consists of a 1-4 scale, 1 containing the least amount of litter and 4 containing the most. Winnipeg’s index has increased largely from last year’s 2.18 to a current 2.37. The Northeastern part of our city possesses a 2.82 in the index scale, making it the most litter polluted area in Winnipeg. To make our city as clean as possible, it is essential for us go into our neighbourhoods and discard as much litter as we can.

The Unity Project will be hitting the streets to pick up any garbage/litter in the area. We will be focusing on the Northeastern part of the city as it is the most litter polluted area in the city being 2.82 on the litter index. Below are images of our recent cleanups before the snowfall of 2022. We will be back on the streets in spring to help keep our city clean.

Summer 2022

This summer the Unity Team will be focused on putting up hydration shelters throughout Winnipeg. We will be working closely with the city to ensure that we are following all city guidelines and keeping Manitobans hydrated through the blazing heat! Our shelters will offer water, fresh fruits, and a place to cool down!
